THE SECTION FOR CERAMICS

The section for ceramics was established in 2006 and combines academic educated artists which are using ceramics as artistic media and are members of associations affiliated in ZDSLU.

Stimulation to create new direction within The Association of Fine Artists Societies of Slovenia (Zveza društev slovenskih likovnih umetnikov - ZDSLU) was the idea of founder-members: academic sculptors Mojca Smerdu, Alenka Vidrgar Dragica Čadež Lapajne, Polona Demšar, Eva Peterson Lenassi, engineer of architecture and ceramist Danica Žbontar and master of arts and ceramist Iztok Maroh.

In the same year we organized the first exhibition of artistic ceramics in The Garden of ZDSLU ("Sculpture in ceramics - ceramics in sculpture") and we continued with independent exhibition projects and monthly lectures of artists which create in ceramics.
With activities organized by Section for ceramics we would like in the future too speak louder about the importance of slovenian artists which active or only at times create in the field of contemporary ceramics and in this way present this artistic sort to wider audience. Our goal is that Section for ceramics in the future too acquires new creators and artists who understand ceramics as a fundamental artistic media for independent creation of expresive ceramic objects and setting ups. This kind, active working would contribute to establishment of department for artistic ceramics on Academy for fine arts and design in Ljubljana.
