ORGANIZING COMMITTEE OF THE 1ST INTERNATIONAL TRIENNlAL OF CONTEMPORARY
CERAMICS UNICUM 09 set up by ZDSLU in cooperation with National Museum
of Slovenia is organizing International triennial of contemporary
ceramics and parallel events all over Slovenia. The emphasis is on
presentation of contemporary ceramics as an independent area in the
field of artistic creation. Its intention is to popularize ceramics
art in Slovenia and wide international area. Triennial contains competitive
part with central ceramics exhibition and accompanying events and
exhibitions.
A. Competitive part of triennial
Call for applications is international and public.
Any individual artist or group of artists who work in this media
(ceramics) may participate in the 1st International triennial UNICUM
09.
Members of the organizing committee, international jury and invited
authors are not allowed to compete in the international triennial
UNICUM 09.
Each individual or group is allowed to submit up to three entries
in total among which the international jury will select.
Artworks without any ceramic techniques, technologies or approaches
will be rejected. Ceramic artworks can include other materials which
must not predominate and have to be sensible justified in the work.
With application the artist is assuring that each ceramic artwork
was created within last three years and has never been exhibited
or rewarded before.
Costs of sending and returning artworks are authors' responsibility.
Applications
Applications to the competitive part of triennial with all documentation
required should be sent via post to the address:

Each author has to deliver:
- Correctly filled entry form;
- High quality photograph of the author;
- Three photographs of each
ceramic artwork in required format and quality for printing.
All photos may be collected on a CD in JPG, TIF or RAW format. On
each photograph or CD there must be the name of the author and the
title of the artwork.
With application each author also allows the organizer to use all
information from received documentation for promotion and the catalogue
of the triennial.
The organizer will not return the material that will be sent with
applications. All the material will be kept in the archives of the
triennial as a part of applications documentation.
The organizer of the triennial also does not take any responsibility
for information which will be sent with applications and will be
published for promotion purpose of the triennial or the catalogue.
The author is taking all the responsibility for correctness of the
information about him/her and his/her artwork.
Artworks which will be selected on the base of received photographs
authors can not exchange or replace with other artworks.
Deadline for applications
Final deadline for application is 30th October 2008. Each author
has to send application with all required documentation and photographs
to the address: unicum09@gmail.com or 1st International ceramic triennial
Unicum 09, Komenskega 8, 1000 Ljubljana, Slovenia.
The organizer will not consider incomplete applications.
Selection of artworks and informing the authors about classifications
to the triennial
International jury will perform the selection untill 15th December
2008.
Authors of selected ceramic artworks will be informed in January
2009. List of selected authors will be announced on the web side
of the triennial.
Delivery of selected artworks
Authors must deliver selected artworks from 5th until 8th may 2009
between 10.00 and 12.00 to the address: National museum of Slovenia,
Metelkova, Maistrova 1 1000 Ljubljana, Slovenia, International
ceramic triennial Unicum 09, by post or in person.
Together with artworks authors have to send or bring photocopy of
entry form to triennial.
If selected artworks consist of several pieces the author has to
add the plan for setting up the artwork at the exhibition.
In case any selected author will send or deliver any other artwork
than the one on the photograph in application to the triennial, the
organizer will disqualified the author and reject the artwork.
Artworks which will arrive damaged or ruined will not be exhibited
and will be returned to the author together with note of the commission
about the injury of the artwork. Costs of sending and returning artworks
covers the author.
Returning artworks
At the end of exhibition each author can pick up his/her artwork
until 29th of september 2009 at the address: National museum of
Slovenia, Metelkova, Ljubljana. After this date artworks will be
returned to the author on his/her expenses.
Insurance of artworks
Insurance of artworks during transport from author to organizer is
authors responsibility.
International jury
The jury will consist of artists who enjoy international reputation
and are experts in the field of contemporary fine arts directions
all over the world. International jury will consist of 5 members,
2 from Slovenia.

- Slovenia
Doc. Nadja Zgonik, regular professor of art history
and theory in the Academy of fine arts in Ljubljana and also artistic
reviewer. She prepares exhibitions and writes reviews, discussions
and studies for exhibition catalogues.
Darko Golija, academic sculptor, spec., regular
professor for sculpture on Pedagogical faculty in Maribor. He
received several rewards.
- Serbia
Velimir Vukičević, academic painter, master
of ceramics, member of International Academy of Ceramics AIC,
professor
in Faculty of arts in Belgrade in department for ceramics. He
also received several international rewards.
- Austria
Waltraut Geschiel, master of art, member of
International Organization for Contemporary Ceramics ICCA with
headquarters in
Vienna. She is also the director of International biennial of
ceramics in Kapfenberg.
- Italia
Emidio Galassi, academic sculptor and ceramist,
he gave lessons in ceramics in Art Institute for Ceramics in
Faenza. He received several rewards, among which is also
Premia Faenza
Ex aeguo from 1983.

The jury will make a selection of artworks for the exhibition of
the triennial on the base of received photographic material. At the
selection of the artworks the jury will consider creativeness, the
power of artistic expression and formative - technological qualities.
From among selected artworks the jury will choose artworks for awards
and recognitions of the triennial.
The decision of the jury is final.
Awards and recognitions
Awards and recognitions will be conferred at the opening of exhibition.
About receipts of the awards and recognitions all the winners will
be duly informed.
Artworks
that
will receive money awards* and artworks
that
will receive recognitions will be with concordance
of the author included into permanent collection of the triennial.
*Because the organizer does not know the fund for money
rewards yet, it is impossible to define their amount. There certainly
will be granted three money rewards, several redemption rewards and
written recognitions. The details will be announced on our web pages
during preparations for realization of the trienale UNICUM 09.
The exhibition of the triennial
The opening of the 1st International Ceramic Triennial Unicum 09
will be sometime in may 2009 in National museum of Slovenia -Metelkova.
The closing of the exhibition will be at the end of September 2009.
The organizer will take care for the setting up, protection and insurance
of the exhibition in National Museum of Slovenia - Metelkova in Ljubljana.
In case of any damage of artworks during the exhibition authors will
receive money substitute up to the worth of artwork declared in the
application form.
Promotion
Along with the exhibition there will be printed the catalogue of
the selected artworks. Authors of selected artworks will receive
the catalogue free of charge.
At the same time there all accompanying events and exhibitions will
be promotionally covered.
B. Accompanying events of the triennial
In the time of triennial there will be organized accompanying parallel
events and exhibitions all over Slovenia.
- In cooperation with Festival Ljubljana there will be an exhibition
of 5 selected Slovenian artist that work in the field of ceramic
art. This exhibition will take place at Ljubljana Castle.
- Organizations
in Slovenia that educate in the field of ceramic art will organize
an exhibition of students artworks in National Museum
of Slovenia - Metelkova in Ljubljana.
- In the castle in Slovenska
Bistrica CDU will organize an exhibition of members of Slovenian
ceramics associations.
- Provincial museum in Murska Sobota will
organize an exhibition where will, beside rich potters heritage,
show the remarkable white ceramics
of potter Adolf Hašaj.
- Dolenjski museum in Novo mesto will introduce
the development of industrial fine ceramics of Josip Klemenčič.
- In
lapidary of Gallery of Božidar Jakac in Kostanjevica on Krka
there will be the confrontation of the authorial research work
in
ceramic art.
- The Gallery of fine arts in Slovenj Gradec will organize
the meeting that will connect neighbour countries of EU in the
field of ceramic
art.
All the addresses of locations where exhibitions and events will
take places and all the timetables will be announced in promotion
material of the triennial and. The organizer of the triennial reserves a right to change the rules
if that is in interest of quality course of events.
