Rich and long tradition of Czech ceramics gained after Second World War, especially in the sixties and seventies, a prestigious position on the world ceramic scene. But it is only in the last 25 years that artist creativity in baked clay, ceramics and porcelain liberated itself from the ties of applied art, when authors, equipped by top-level skills and innovative approach, have turned to completely free, monumental sculptural modeling. In our selection it ranges from ingenious, imaginative “applied art” design (Ivan Jelinek), figuration (Stanislava Kavanova) and delicate abstract reliefs (Pavel Knapek) in porcelain, over susceptible, timeless and fantastic figural moulding (Hana Purkrabkova, Miroslav Paral), to rough expressive and monumental compositions (Elzbieta Grosseova) in baked clay. The exhibition was organized in collaboration with Association of Czech Ceramic Artists of the Union of Artists of the Czech Republic
