KERAMIKA, a factory producing stoves, kitchen ranges, stoneware and chamotte
products, was founded by Josip KLEMENČIČ in 1923 and continued the tradition
of Novo Mesto's first stove-making workshop, founded by the APPÉ brothers in
1892. In the 1930s KERAMIKA produced, besides tiles for stoves, a range of
creamware ceramics products, some for practical use and others purely decorative,
in collaboration with a number of Slovene artists.
The exhibition includes a selection of tiles produced to various designs and
some examples of creations in ceramics by Julij PAPIČ, Dana PAJNIČ and Srečko
KOTAR.
In the second half of the 1980s and the early 1990s, the artist Tomaž Kržišnik
collaborated with the KERAMIKA factory in Novo Mesto. The exhibition includes
a selection of his small ceramic sculptures and a photographic presentation
of his work in ceramics in connection with decoration and architecture.
