KÉRAMOS: HERE AND NOW, PERSPECTIVES ON CONTEMPORARY CERAMICS

International exhibition
23. 6.-28. 7. 2018
Piran Coastal Galleries, Piran City Gallery

The exhibition entitled Kéramos: Here and Now, Perspectives on Contemporary Ceramics gives insight into the recent production of art ceramics in Slovenia, Croatia, and Italy: countries with major contributions from a number of participants at Piran International Ex-tempore of Ceramics. The competitive character of the former event has been replaced with a curatorial exhibition selected by some members of the international juries who, based on their rich professional experience and individual criteria, each selected five artists. The exhibition presents 45 artists and their recent or most representative works. We encounter familiar names drawn to attention by the art critics Franco Bertoni and Geraldine Blais from Italy, Marina Baričević and Višnja Slavica Gabout from Croatia, academic sculptor Dragica Čadež, art historian Mateja Kos and the exhibition's curator Tatjana Sirk from Slovenia.

In a time of multimedia approaches and combinations of various fine art practices, giving opportunity to the young was inevitable. They were selected by Cristina Treppo, an artist and docent at the Venice Academy of Fine Arts, and Dražen Vitolović, artist and artistic collaborator at the Academy of Applied Arts in Rijeka. The students of the Ljubljana Academy of Fine Arts and Design will be represented separately at the accompanying exhibition of the IV. International Triennial of Ceramics UNICUM 2018; thus they were not invited to participate at this exhibition.

The exhibition aims to bring to attention and focus ceramics as a topical medium within the contemporary fine art creativity. By taking into consideration the professional views in the selection of works, both the exhibition and the individual works in different techniques with a variety of content and motifs promote critical reflection, comparison and discovery of new artistic communications in the selected medium - ceramics.
